When I applied for the scholarship, I thought I missed the deadline. When I received a phone call that I was selected as one of the recipients, I was thrilled. The scholarship helped my tuition expenses and my family out a lot. I come from a family that doesn’t have very much money because of the many hardships that we went through while I was growing up. At times it is hard for paying for college without taking out loans. The scholarship also helped me to continue my studying in Nursing and when I become a Nurse I can create my own scholarship fund and help others.

I think it is wonderful that the Walter L. Moore Scholarship Fund was created. It helps African American Minorities further their education in different fields. Many students are first-generation college students, like myself, have something to prove. I think the scholarship fund should continue to target African American high school students and college students.
